Vincent Paul Fuschini's Obituary
Vincent Paul Fuschini was born, raised and educated in Washington DC. He moved to San Francisco, a dream of his, after retiring from the federal government and eventually settled 30 years ago into Tucson and found home in living in an intentional community at Sonora Cohousing. From the east coast to the west coast to the Sonoran Desert, Paul made friends and family with all he met. Those of you who knew Paul well, know how committed he was to human rights and social justice. His work with the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington DC in the 1970-80s, helping to establish the EPA’s Superfund program, protected health and the environment by managing the cleanup of the nation's worst hazardous waste sites. Once in Tucson, he became engaged with many social justice groups. Volunteering at Casa Maria Soup Kitchen, Reading Seed and working with Humane Borders providing water and humanitarian service to migrants along the US-Mexico border regions saved many lives. He is defined by his respect and solidarity with Disability Rights, LGTBQ and the Black Lives Matter movements.
Paul knew how to have a good time anywhere; traveling the world to experience different cultures through his lens. A liberal thinker, we called him a news junky; always ready to engage in conversation about world events. Loving all music from Jazz classics to his favorite band the Grateful Dead, he most enjoyed live concert performances. He loved cooking and eating, preferably Italian food and playing bi-weekly bocce with dear amici. You don’t get Paul if you didn’t know how passionate he was about international futbol-soccer, NBA games and closer to home, the UA Wildcat basketball teams, watching many games with his best Co-Housing neighbor buddies. He leaves us with countless good memories shared with our many friends and family who were blessed to experience life with him.
Paul has six children, 4 from his previous 37-year marriage; two by birth; Scott and Brett and two by adoption; Robert (Becky) and Linda (Bruce) and his 2 step-children Jennifer and Jessica from his 25 year marriage to Tracy until his passing. Being a grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, he would often say how much he loved being a Pop Pop and Tata to some of his favorite people in the world.
He is preceded in death of his immediate family, his parents Salvadore and Ethel, his brother Tom, first wife Jennette, brother-in-law Dirk, and 3 of his children; Brett, Scott and Jennifer.
A Celebration of Paul’s Life will be held on November 11, starting with a 10 am memorial service at First Christian Church, 740 E Speedway, directly followed by a luncheon reception and time for sharing at Sonora Co-Housing 501 East Roger Road.
