Wallace Samuel Jacob's Obituary
Jacob, Wallace Samuel (Sam) October 29, 1955 - August 1, 2017
Sammy went home to the Lord on August 1, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents Wallace W. Jacob and Mary Kassis Jacob of Tucson, Az.
Sammy was born on October 29, 1955 in Tucson, Arizona. He remained in his hometown his entire life. Sammy graduated from Catalina High School in 1973. He attended the University of Arizona for a time after that. He was in ROTC while enrolled there. He had a great love of aviation, World War 2 history and science fiction.
He was employed by the Cash Box for 37 years, where he managed their gun department. They were a second family to him, as well as the many customers who became his friends. Sammy’s passion was to be outdoors. Camping, fishing, hunting, that was when he was happiest and he did it as often as he could. It was his joy to share that time with friends and family. He has asked for his ashes to be scattered over our parent’s graves and on the Black River in the White Mountains.
Although we are all heartbroken with the sudden removal of him from our lives, in our hearts, we know he is not only at peace, but reunited with our parents, whom he loved dearly, and with so very many family members who preceded him.
The loves of his lives were his two Nephews, Andrew and Patrick Bryce. He would have done anything on earth for them. He was Andrew’s Godfather. He felt as if he was partly father, partly Grandfather to them. He talked about them often and to anyone who would listen. He shared with them his love of the outdoors. Spending time outdoors is one of their favorite pastimes. He was very proud of the young men they had become. They were his children. He loved seeing pictures of Andrew’s daughter Druzy. You could see the joy and pride on his face when he would see them. It was a beautiful thing.
He was the best big brother they make. He was always protective of me, his little sister. He gave me away in our father’s place at my wedding. If I needed anything, he was there for me. He watched over me our entire lives. We were separated for a time after our parents passing, I realize now how hard that must have been for him. He always had my back, he was my person, and I was his.
Sammy’s extended family was large, loving and just a bit crazy, think “Big Fat Greek Wedding”, just change Greek to Lebanese. He is survived by our father’s Brother Daniel Jacob (Rae) and sister Marlene Thomas (Honon), as well as two special Uncles, Nimer Ganem and Donald Scheick, who were surrogate fathers to him. Sammy was also blessed with a multitude of cousins; they all have diverse memories of times shared with him. Many remember him as a cowboy, with his handlebar mustache that was ever present for most of his life. They loved him very much.
Sammy had so many wonderful friends, so many! Each of them said that they had either just seen or talked to Sam recently when told of his passing. He leaves them brokenhearted, but he also leaves behind so many wonderful memories of him and the times that they shared as well. They truly were family to him.
Sammy is survived by his sister Dawn Jacob Bryce, his nephew Andrew Bryce (Lindsay), great-niece, Druzy Alayna Bryce and his nephew Patrick Bryce, as well as his birth mother Carol Pickett.
There will be a Memorial Celebration of his life on Saturday, August 19th at 1:00 pm. It will be held at the Elks Lodge located at 615 S. Pantano Rd., Tucson, AZ 85710.
