William Wright Lynch Jr.'s Obituary
William Wright Lynch, Jr lived a remarkable 87 years that began August 26, 1936 in Dallas, Texas. Bill was an intelligent, handsome, elegant man. He had a tremendous work ethic. His disciplined behavior was fine-tuned from his years in ROTC and serving in the Army. He was a cultured man enjoying the opera and the symphony. Learning languages was a favorite hobby, and he spoke Italian and basic French. He was also a clever wordsmith and the origin of all the family nicknames from Hotspur to Poofer’s Woofer. Despite his many talents he acted with humility. Perhaps his greatest quality was his kindness. Bill had a pure heart sharing his smile and compassion with those he encountered. He was extremely loyal to his friends and family. Bill was a devoted son to his father William Wright Lynch and his mother Martha Alma Hirsch Lynch. His closest friend was his brother Harry whom he greatly loved and respected.
In the 1970’s, Bill developed Cimarron Foothill Estates in the Santa Catalina Mountains in Tucson. After completing that project he returned to Dallas where he spent the majority of his life. He worked in real estate development and in various enterprises alongside his brother such as Lynch Investments and Argenta Partners. He also served on several boards including the Armstrong Foundation in Tucson and the Maddox Foundation in New Mexico. Bill attended the Judson School, Highland Park High School, The University of Arizona, and Stanford Business School.
Bill spent the last years of his life in Tucson and really enjoyed being back in the desert. He never lost his sense of humor and always had a twinkle in his eye and a good one-liner for his caregivers. He lived a graceful life up until December 7, 2023 when he passed on to Heaven, surrounded by his family and his wonderful, caring nurses. Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sandra McVay, his daughters Mary Margaret Vasquez and Katherine Leyton, their husbands Gary Vasquez and Alex Leyton, and his five grandchildren. His family will miss his steady presence and his unfailing optimism. He leaves behind a legacy that his descendants hold dear attempting to follow his excellent example.
His life will be celebrated Saturday March 23 @ 3 pm at Grace St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
