Thought of you today after reading a article and hearing on tv about the bats emerging under the Rillito bridge at dusk and how to see the spectical.
They identified them as "the big brown bat".
With your teachings and desert excersions I knew they missed it. They are the Mexican Free tail bat as you had taught me.
Your teachings and dedication to your work was unsurpassed. Most important. It was FUN for you as it was me.
Still missed. Candy

Yar. Today would have been your birthday.
You are very missed by me. I know you're in a very special place with all the animals you have loved.
Again I miss you. Thinking of you has helped me through hard times.
Until we meet again. Love Candy
Yar shared his expertise with us at a Sabino Canyon Volunteer Naturalist training. I loved his presentation of "scat". He was so excited to share his collection with those that truly appreciated it. Also, I was thrilled when he gave us a talk on mammals and when sharing his collection actually had one of mine that I had prepared in a mammalogy class at the UofA. I feel privileged to have known him even in a small way.
I first met Yar on a Smithsonian trip to San Ignacio Lagoon in 1989. We kept in touch over the years since. I was sad to recently find he had passed. I considered him a dear friend and I thought the world of him. He was truly a remarkable person, My last communication from his was the book he wrote about his family. I will treasure it.

Yar, you taught me and my family the joys of the outdoors: plants, animals and nature in general. We always had great times together and you never stopped teaching, it's what you loved to do! I will miss you big brother!
