Zella Rhea Horwitz's Obituary
Zella Horwitz, 90, a loving and devoted mother, wife, grandmother, aunt and friend, died on November 19, surrounded by her family and her loving caregivers. Zella Rhea Hoffman, who lived in Tucson for 67 years, was born in Fargo, North Dakota on St. Patrick’s Day in 1933. The youngest of three children, she attended the University of Minnesota. In 1956, Zella moved to Tucson with her husband, William Honor Horwitz, whose family owned Crescent Jewelers in Fargo, downtown Tucson and later El Con Mall. After her husband died in 1981, Zella ran the family jewelry business and later became a real estate agent at Long Realty. Zella was known for her zest for life, her loyalty and love of her family, her radiance, elegance, style, loving kindness and integrity. She was also known for throwing beautiful parties at her home in Colonia Solona and spent many summers with her family at Detroit Lakes and Lake Melissa, Minnesota. Zella was active at Temple Emanuel and in several Tucson philanthropic organizations, including Assistance League of Tucson, Silver and Turquoise Ball and the Angel Ball. Zella was devoted to her large, extended family and to her friends. Survivors include her three daughters and their spouses, Sari Horwitz (William Schultz) of Washington, D.C., Heidi Horwitz of Tucson and Wendy Greenwald (Jay Greenwald) of Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren, Rachael Schultz, Jenni Greenwald, Jess Greenwald and Jax Greenwald - and “special” family member, Angie Gully. Her many nieces, nephews and cousins, include Claudia Lieberman, Jeffrey Hochman, Kathi George, Julie Hursey, Robert Hoffman, Ann Hoffman, Steven Hoffman, Clint Horwitz, Laurel Horwitz, Lois Connor, Roggie and Barry Baer and family, Linda Davidson and the Davidson family, Sarah and Don Persellin and the extended Persellin and Hoffman families. Zella was lovingly cared for many years by Judy Ketz, Leticia Castro and Haydee Bolanos. A graveside ceremony will take place at Evergreen Cemetery at 10:30 Tuesday, November 21. 3015 N.
