The Evergreen Difference
Since 1907, we have been honored to deliver healing experiences to the Tucson community. We exist to serve the unique needs of every family. Learn our story. Lean on us. And let our expertise lead you through the best experience possible.
We’re here to give you care and comfort as we help guide you through the planning journey.
We've learned a lot about caring for families over the years. We realize that we aren't just caring for a loved one, but the entire family. People come to us during their most difficult times, and we respond with kindness, understanding and expertise. Our goal is to make everyone feel at home as we work with them to create a memorable service in honor of a beautiful life.
Evergreen was founded in 1907 as a place outside of the rapidly growing Tucson city limits for burial purposes. Today, the remains of many pioneers from old ranch sites and homesteads are re-interred within Evergreen’s boundaries.
Foreseeing the necessity for complete funeral services in one convenient location, Evergreen Mortuary was established in 1974, making Evergreen the first and the largest mortuary and cemetery combination in Southern Arizona.
In 1982 the National Funeral Directors Association initiated their “Pursuit of Excellence Program” and Evergreen immediately became involved. Since then, Evergreen consistently has been recognized for our participation; receiving three Eagle Awards, gaining the prestigious Emeritus Status and ultimately receiving the Crystal Eagle Awards.
Evergreen was acquired by NorthStar Memorial Group (NSMG) in 2014. For more than a decade, NSMG has guided the future of the funeral and memorialization profession with a mission to care, comfort and plan. NSMG represents the nation's finest funeral, cemetery, cremation and memorialization locations. Each is unique, each is home to a tradition of leadership, and all uphold our promise of unprecedented passion and service.
Awarded as one of the best
Not only has Evergreen has been named as one of the top three funeral homes in Tucson for a second year in a row by Three Best Rated, but Evergreen Mortuary has also been recognized as a Finalist for Best Mortuary 2019 by the Arizona Daily Star and Tucson.com Readers Choice Awards.
Splendor for acres
Situated on 110 acres of serenity, Evergreen is proud to be listed as a Bird Sanctuary by the Audubon Society of Tucson, where during migration season many unique species can be sighted, due to our extensive and vast collection of trees.
Our mortuary, cemetery and crematory are all available in one location. The facilities at Evergreen Mortuary, Cemetery & Crematory are specially designed to ensure a comfortable, dignified environment.

Years in Business
We're members of the local community who have many years of experience caring for families from all backgrounds and all walks of life. Families know they can count on us to provide them the comfort they need when they need it most.
A Tucson native, Cathy returned home in May of 2019 to join the Evergreen Team. She brings almost 20 years of experience to her role as General Manager at Evergreen, having started out as an Executive Assistant and transitioning to the Cemetery Office Manager role before becoming Assistant General Manager and eventually General Manager at Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego, California.
“It is an honor to be at the helm of such an historic and well-known cemetery,” Cathy says. “What I love most is being part of a team filled with compassionate, hardworking professionals who serve the grief-stricken of this community day in and day out, guiding them through what might be the worst days of their lives.”
Outside of work, Cathy enjoys spending time at the park with her Miniature Schnauzer Bella and Goldendoodle Fozzie Bear.
Trena started her career in the industry as a Sales Manager at a standalone cemetery in her home town of Sedalia, Missouri. Trena joined Evergreen January 5th 2015 as a Family Service Advisor and shortly after became the Family Service Supervisor.
As Sales Manager, Trena oversees Evergreen’s team of Family Service Advisors, leading with compassion and understanding to assist families in Southern Arizona at their time of need. Trena is also passionate about educating families on the need to pre-arrange their own needs as it is the best gift that can be given to your loved ones.
Trena is very active in the Tucson community. In her spare time, Trena loves to explore Arizona on her Harley Road Glide. When time permits she also loves to travel.
Trena has one daughter and three granddaughters that live in Missouri.
Mark Jason Dunn
Mark has more than 20 years of experience in funeral service and oversees the daily operations of the funeral home. He began his career in Arizona as an apprentice before making the move to a primarily Jewish funeral home in Florida. Most recently he served as chapel manager of a private combo location in El Mirage, Arizona, before coming to Evergreen in 2018.
Mark joined the Northstar family to continue with a company that is committed to excellence and family service. When he is not working, Mark enjoys camping with his family, NASCAR, and helping his 2 boys grow in Scouting and sports.
Heidi Gregory joined Evergreen Mortuary & Cemetery in 2002 as the controller/accountant of the company and was responsible for all accounting procedures and functions. She worked in that position until acquired by NorthStar Memorial Group in 2014 where she now works as the office manager.
She enjoys being able to work closely with families and being a part of helping them through a very difficult time. She believes that you should never take life for granted because we do not know what the future holds and no one is promised tomorrow. Everyone should always live life to the fullest.
Heidi has two children and five grandchildren. When not working she enjoys traveling, scuba diving and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mirza Nijemcevic started working at Evergreen in September of 2010, after spending 2 years in the profession at our neighboring cemetery Holy Hope. He became a certified cremationist in 2011, and also learned how to sand blast monuments and memorials as well as learning how to do mechanical small engine work. Mirza was Born in Bosnia and Hercegovina and subsequently lived in Germany from 1992 – 1998. He came to the United States in 1998. He is married and has 4 kids that are his world. Mirza is also a huge sports fan – especially our very own Arizona Cardinals, the University of Arizona Wildcats, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and also the Phoenix Suns. In his off time and weekends he loves to ride his Harley Motorcycle.
We illuminate paths to peace with personalized ceremonies and memorial tributes that honor your loved one.
