Aranka Bodnar's Obituary
Aranka Bodnar, 98, passed away June 12, 2022 in Tucson, AZ. She was Born in Budapest, Hungary in the roaring 20's. ‘Ari’ Grew up in pre-war Budapest, and suffered through the ravages of WWII, and survived the Holocaust, but lost many in her family. After the War she worked as a Nazi-Hunter for a Russian-Hungarian military intelligence service, but spoke very little of those years. She was married to the love of her life George in 1950. Then during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, Ari and her husband George and their two small children at the time, escaped from Hungary through Austria to the USA with the help of the US military. She worked hard raising her children, while working as a seamstress to help George get through College to become an Electrical Engineer. They gave their children everything, and every opportunity they could afford, and would sacrifice anything for them. They had a very long and happy marriage of over 65 years before he passed in 2015. They traveled the world extensively. Loved the arts and culture, and classical music of Europe. They always had season tickets to the symphony and opera. Ari loved fashion, and was skilled in sewing, knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint – and even made her own haute couture dresses from Vogue patterns when they couldn’t afford such luxuries. She was also an excellent cook, and always the ‘hostess with the mostess’ Her dinner parties were always lavished with complements by their many friends they were blessed with. She was very active in her Temple and in Hadassah where she was a Life member and received awards for her many charitable works through the years. A true Woman of Valor, who will be missed by all who knew her.
