See you tonight Mommy!
I am so sorry to hear of such an amazing light dimming. I had the pleasure of working with Barb in Oncology Research for a few years in Gilbert. Barb was always a smiling, shining face, even on a bad day, she was able to make you smile. I was always inspired of her doing her monthly half marathons! One year, she gave every one of us the "The Secret Life of Henrietta Lacks" book. That made me have a better understanding and appreciation for the hard work we do for Research. Barb was such an amazing person and really made an impact on so many people. We will all truly miss her.
Barb and I were connected in many different way. She was an RN when I worked at NW Hospital and when I signed documents she thought my first name was church instead of Chuck. She called me that from that time on. She left the hospital and went to work as a research assistant for Dr. Sam Butman. One day they were talking and he said "I did such and such with my good friend Chuck Cook" Barb responded "Wait, Chuck is MY good friend"! When I left NW Hospital and she went on to the VA she was the only person from NW I kept in touch with. We routinely got together with her and Tim several times per year for great fun and laughter. The last time we saw her was her 75th birthday bash and it was great fun and laughter like all the times before. And we were connected to the end. I had a titanium wedding ring and when Barb saw it probably 10 years ago she said "You have to take that off right away. If something happens to you and you go to the ER with your hand swelling, they won't be able to cut the ring off of you and they will have to cut off your finger to get it off." I continued to wear that ring every day and she didn't mention it again. I lost that ring while my wife and I were on vacation and I lost it on the day that Barb passed away. She will be missed so much.
