Burton Elliott Becker's Obituary
Burton E. Becker passed away Tuesday, April 25 after a prolonged battle with cancer.. He is survived by daughters Beth Becker of Silver Spring, MD and Amy Platizky (Adam Platizky) of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by his brother William Becker (Joyce Becker) of Tucson, AZ.
Burton was born in Milwaukee, WI but moved to Tucson at a very young age and he lived in Tucson most of his life with the exception of a few years for dental school and service the Army as a dentist. While in New York City for his dental internship, he met and married his wife of 54 years, Phyllis. He then served in the army at Ft. Huachua, where his older daughter was born. After the army the family moved back to Tucson where the youngest daughter was born.
He and his brother William were practicing dentists on the east side of Tucson for over 40 years. During that time he was active in his professional field of periodontology including service as an examiner for the American Academy of Periodontology Board of Examiners and he was President of the Western Society of Periodontology in 1982.
Burton was also very active in the Tucson community as a lifelong member of Congregation Anshei Israel, where he once served on the Board and a member of the Sunset Rotary Club.
When he wasn’t working Burton loved to travel all over the world and he was a season ticket holder for Arizona Basketball for over 40 years.
Burton was loved and cherished by his family and friends and all who knew and worked with him.
The family would like to acknowledge the loving care provided by people of Tucson Place at Ventana Canyon.
Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Ceremony on Friday, April 28 at and Shiva, in keeping with Jewish tradition, will be held Friday afternoon, Sunday evening and Monday evening at Burton’s home..
