Daniel Tom's Obituary
Daniel Jean Tom passed on December 29, 2019 after struggling with failing health for the last year and a half. On November 19, 1953, he was the fourth child born at St Mary’s Hospital, here in Tucson, to William Bon Sam and Sun Fon Tom. Dan attended Tucson High and received a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Arizona. He worked for Ford Aerospace, the Defense Division of Ford Motors Co, in Newport Beach, CA for almost 10 years.
Dan returned to Tucson to help with the family grocery store, Jeff’s Market, when his father passed in October 1985. Dan’s favorite hobby was radio controlled airplanes and added those to the grocery business. When not working, one could find him with his buddies out on the flying fields.
In his early years, Dan loved to play all sports – tennis, golf, wallyball, bowling, softball, and fishing for bonita at Redondo Beach Pier. In Tucson he continued playing and watching golf, spent time at the casinos, and loved, really loved food – sushi, rice porridge, Popeye’s fried chicken, Arby’s beef brisket, and any seafood buffets.
Dan is survived by his siblings (and spouses) – Dorothy (Louis), Belle, William Jr (Mary) and Jeffrey (Sharon), and 9 nephews and (5 grand nieces and 3-grand nephews); Nephews --Thomas (Dan Yan), Brian (Ellen), Karl, Steven (Lo), James (Leslie), Nicholas (Anna), Christopher (Connie), Donovan, and Colton. His dog Bella was adopted by a loving family last year. Services will be held at Evergreen Mortuary and Cemetery, 3015 N Oracle Rd on Saturday, January 11, 2020. Visitation begins at 10:00am and the chapel services at 11:00am followed by a brief graveside service.
Our sincere gratitude to the medical team and staff at Mountain View Care Center for their care of Dan this last year.
