Doris Sue Fite Crain's Obituary
Doris Sue Fite Crain
May 19, 2018 was a day of great rejoicing as Doris Fite Crain took her final journey to her heavenly home. She wanted everyone to know that as we say good-bye to her earthly body, she is with the Lord, looking on His face, singing Glory, Glory, Glory. She was a woman of firm faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love that would await her passing. It was what supported her in her final struggles and gave her ultimate peace.
Doris was born in Memphis, Tennessee, the year of the great stock market crash and the beginning of the Great Depression. Many childhood summers, with her older brother and 2 younger sisters, were spent at their Granny's rural home in Atwood, TN, the location of the former Fite family farm.
From Doris' earliest memories, God was always a part of her life. In spite of early family struggles, her resilient spirit and faith in her Lord contributed to the person she was to become. She married John Crain, a naval veteran, after his return from the war. Job opportunities took them to Missouri, with their two young daughters. Family needs in Memphis called them back home.
Her employment history included working as a soda "jerk" and selling women's handbags in downtown department store; she was a hair beautician, a seamstress on a Levi's assembly line, and a secretary at International Harvester Co. and in a public school. She had worked from the age of 14, but being a wife, mother and homemaker was her chosen & cherished profession. Doris faithfully served in church as a Sunday School teacher of children and women for many years, but when she became a student of God's Word at a Bible College in Memphis, it fed her hungry soul and transformed her life.
When John was offered a "job he couldn't refuse", he and Doris moved to Tucson, Arizona, where they spent many weekends exploring the vastly different western environment. After 47 years of marriage, Doris' team-mate, best friend and love of her life was called to his heavenly home 25 years ago. Since then, she thoroughly enjoyed all 15 of her greatgrandchildren, gardening, reading, jigsaw puzzles and watching baseball on TV. Her vivid life memories provided much entertainment and life lessons for her family, who adored her and surrounded her with support and love.
Doris has been reunited with her beloved husband John B. Crain, Jr, her parents, Charles Fite, Sr and Naomi Hampton, her brother Charles Fite, Jr; leaving behind her sisters Jane Williams & Jean Sutton, and sister-in-law Nell Newman; along with her daughters Patricia Gail Hull, husband Ronald Hull, their children John (Diana) Hull and Sarah (Carlo) Vidal; and Robin Lynn DeBake, husband Jay DeBake, their children Melanie (Matthew) Peyton, Jonathan (Jill) DeBake and Andrew (Susan) DeBake; her great-grandchildren Julia, Austin and Gage Hull; Andrew (Kimberly), Susanna, Adam, Katharine, and Alivia Vidal; Jacob, Madelyn, Isaiah and Makeda Peyton; Hannah DeBake; Victoria and Anderson DeBake; and great-great grandchildren Cooper and Audrey Vidal.
A graveside service will be May 24th, at 3:00 pm at Evergreen Mortuary Cemetery & Memorial Park, 3015 N Oracle Road, Tucson, Arizona (Ft Lowell Road entrance).
Her request was that any memorial gifts to be directed to the Pima County Chapter of CEF(Child Evangelism Fellowship), P.O. Box 12012, Tucson, AZ 85732.
