Dorothy Ellen Tinnin's Obituary
Dorothy Ellen Tinnin, 83 years old, of Tucson, Arizona passed away March 12, 2015 at the Banner-University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. Memorial Services will be held Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Amphitheater Bible Church, in Tucson at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Amphitheater Bible Church or the donors favorite charity.
Born June 30, 1931, in Monte Vista, Colorado, Dorothy was the daughter of Lawrence Oren Carrell and Roberta Ellen McEnany Carrell.
On April 17, 1950 she married Walter Harry “Kay” Tinnin in Alamosa, Colorado and then moved to Zuni, New Mexico where she was a stay at home mother to four children born from 1951-1956. In the early sixties, she was a substitute teacher at Zuni Elementary but in 1965 went to work in the Zuni Post Office. In 1971 she became the Zuni Postmaster. Due to a variety of reasons she requested to be transferred back to clerk and worked in the Gallup, NM Post Office. In 1979 she became the postmaster in Mentmore, NM and in 1984 was the postmaster in Houck, AZ from which she retired in 1991.
Upon her retirement she moved to Tucson to be closer to her youngest daughter. As a resident she was active in her church involvement, sang in the choir, and played in the Bell Choir.
She is survived by one sister Margaret Ann Coker (Don) of Taft, CA; one sister-in-law Charline Levin Husted (Robert) of Volcano, CA; one son John Tinnin(Jeanne) of Kaycee, WY; three daughters, Coleen Mailliard (Bryan) of Phoenix, AZ, Patti Smith (Rick) of Albuquerque, NM, Lee Ann Tinnin Timmons (Carl) of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Jerad Tinnin, Heather Carrillo, Tanya Ortega de Preising, “Shane” Ortega, Janelle Ortega Garcia, Aaron Smith, Kay Lynn Shinn, Kyle Smith, Carl Lee Craig, Christopher Glen Craig, and seventeen great grandchildren, Mary Grace, Max, Clark, Thomas, Felicity, Percy, John “Jack”, Katherine, Teresa, Jose, Lucy, Emma, Aiden, Chloe, Ashton, Shaylee, Elias, and Anna as well as many friends, neighbors, and other relatives.
Her parents, a brother, two sisters, and her former spouse preceded her in death.
As one of her grandchildren stated “She was a living, breathing example of a godly woman”.
