Dr. Martin H. Meyer's Obituary
On December 9, 2022, Dr. Martin "Marty" Henry Meyer, 93, passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones by his side.
Marty was born to Martin Henry Meyer, Sr., and Alvina Wolter on May 24, 1929, in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Although his family came from humble beginnings, they instilled life-long values of the importance that Marty
expanded on over time for a long and fulfilling life...God, love, family, the kitchen table, contribution to others, sports,
education, home, laughter, service to country, conversation, extensive travels, friends, empathy, health, literature, music, a walk on the beach, hiking (including the Grand Canyon over 20 times), and a bit of levity along the way.
Marty attended Beaumont High School in Saint Louis and discovered a love of running. He was the "Cross-Country King of the County" and was never beaten in high school in the mile. His fastest time was 4.12. These achievements earned him several athletic scholarships.
He settled on the University of Missouri for undergrad earning a Bachelor of Science in Medicine. When considering a career path, Marty felt a contribution to the well-being of others, and medicine seemed appropriate. He chose the University of Pittsburgh for Medical School, which earned him a Doctor of Medicine.
Marty met and married Patricia "Pat" Jeannine Neibert in Saint Louis on February 14, 1959. They were married for 25 years. After a brief time in Tacoma, Washington, Marty and Pat made their home permanent in Tucson, Arizona. Not long after, Marty served a year after the Korean war ended, as a Captain of the Medical Corps in the United States Army.
Marty joined Thomas-Davis Medical Clinic and had 32 successful years in Internal Medicine with a specialty in Cardiology. Marty and Pat enjoyed many years in Tucson together and had two daughters, Christine and Suzanne. After a long illness, Pat passed away in 1984.
After some time, Marty married Elaine Cutts on September 19, 1987. They were married for 27 years. The blended family brought two stepsons, Barry and Brian, and welcoming family members. After a long illness, Elaine passed away in 2014.
In 2015, Marty moved to Coronado, California to be close to his daughters and sons-in-law, Michael and Mike. A daily walk on the beach was a great joy to Marty.
He knew a lot of characters and was definitely one himself; we have so many stories. He had a great sense of humor, laugh, and smile.
Marty shared a few things with his daughters their whole lives, and we think he wouldn't mind sharing them because they can be helpful to us all: "Keep your chin up." "Make today a good one." the third was just for us. However, if you visit one of our homes, you may discover the third one.
There is so much we want to say, he touched so many lives, and we are so grateful that our family and friends
knew the kind of person that he was.
Marty is survived by his children, Christine Meyer Morgan (husband Michael); Suzanne Meyer-Kenney (husband Mike); Barry Cutts, pre-deceased (wife Karen); Brian Cutts (wife Lisa); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, as well as many beloved family members and friends.
Service will be held on Thursday, December 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 710 S. Kolb Rd, Tucson, Arizona 85710. A graveside burial will follow the church service with military honors and a brief fellowship at Evergreen Cemetery on North Oracle Road. You are welcome to join the funeral procession.
