Hey there papa

Been a while huh. So much has happened since i last posted. Like a lot. Basically to sum it up… i’m a sophomore now! 2nd year of Highschool is going strong! Anddd i’m 3 days away from my license!! i cannot wait to drive!

Sooo there is a girl.. and she is AMAZING!!! Like oh my goodness she’s just WOW! Probably the best person i’ve ever gotten to know! We’ve been dating for officially one month and it’s awesome so far! we won hoco duke and duchess together and i asked her to be my girlfriend that night! best decision i have ever made. we have our ups and down but nothing good comes easy. But she is genuinely the best she makes me feel like a million dollars. She came to me when i least expected it and when i put on my “i’m gonna stay single this year” mood. i just couldn’t ask for anyone better. We’re always together, doin that cute couple stuff that we both love! the first time i ever came over she introduced me to tortellini which we call linguine (inside joke) but i absolutely LOVE it!! she introduced me to a lot of new things but i love every single one! she has introduced me to people that i would have never thought i would get to know. but they’re all wonderful and funny and quirky and i love it! she’s the color in my life and i love her so much! thank you for bringing her to me. it means everything to me.

I’m getting closer with mom and dad, gracie and i are always doin great but baylor is the real surprise. Him and i have been getting along well recently, like way earlier than i expected. he’s becoming that age where he’s getting cool and can hold secrets. and we’re not completely there yet but i’m excited to start a new sibling bond with him! he’s gonna be my best friend i just know it. i’ll give it time.

school is going well, so is my relationship. days and nights are getting shorter and colder, but all for the better especially when snowboarding season is here! i picked that up halfway through freshman year and i loved it! grabbed that season pass this year and i am hitting the slopes!

we miss you papa, there isn’t anything i wouldn’t give to talk to you just for a little amount of time or to just give you a hug. i see you in every train i see and every lsu game i watch.

Hey Papa-

Been missing you lately, so I thought i would catch you up on things. I know that you can see it all but I just really want to talk to you.

As you know we’ve been living in pinetop! It’s a bit different from Gilbert but i know that this change would benefit me somehow, it just had to take time.

I’ve found my people here, mostly school friends, but they have become my family. Jacob has been a real blessing for me! Freshman friend, but i met him in p.e last year. I’m either always over at his house on the weekends or vice versa. I have a hilarious friend group at school! My favorite (if i had to choose) would definitely be RJ. We’re around the same height (6 foot) so we get along pretty well and we share some funny interests!

My Cross Country season just ended but i was so happy i ended up doing it! I ran with RJ and to other friends, Peyton and Emma. We had practice Mon- Thurs and have Fridays off. We have had our meets in Payson, Lakeside, Sholow and Mesa. Our coach said we could go to state if we want to, but the days are getting short and cold, so not quite sure if I want to but we’ll see!

I have found a “partner in crime” up here! Her name is Molly. She’s about a foot shorter than me and… claims to have grown 1 inch. But that’s no problem, hugging her is the best because she will just run and wrap her arms and legs around me and just give me a big hug! No better feeling than that!

We hangout a lot at her house. She had moved in to my neighborhood about 3 weeks ago. Her mom and dad love me! Specifically her mom, her and i could talk for hours! When i walk over there (0.4 miles) we mostly play soccer or volleyball! We both share the love and passion for soccer! I really wish you could meet her, you would love her personality! But i know you were the one who brought her to me. And i couldn’t be more grateful!

My birthday is coming up in 3 days! Although I love being 13, i cannot wait to get closer to driving!

I miss you a lot Papa, I you were here so I could tell you all of this in person. And give you such a big hug!

Hey Dad-

Been a bit, but I wanted to catch you up. I know you know all this already, but this is for me...and it's helpful.

We bought a Jeep! Not a cool, Jeepy-Jeep...just a 2007 Grand Cherokee, but it's a 4wd. We needed it. When we bought that Mercedes from you, we had intended to sell the Aspen after getting Ashley her Armada, but the kids didn't want to sell the Aspen...and the gas mileage was almost a wash because of putting the 91 Octane fuel in the Mercedes. Plus...the room was really nice. So, we sold the Mercedes instead. Still needed a 4wd.

Anyway - the Jeep's a diesel! 3-litre diesel. I get 20mpg driving around up here!...so that's awesome! It's also "full-time four-wheel-drive", and it has a turbo! I really wish you could drive it! It's really neat! You would really like it! It makes that cool diesel sound (Hud and I love that!), has the cool diesel smell, and can haul like...well...a diesel! We hauled a 25', dual axle, heavy steel trailer full of chests and dressers up the mountain with that thing, and I will say that I've never had an easier time towing a trailer! According to the manual, this little engine will tow as much as the Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 Hemi!

I've been watching Monk on the Peacock app. I know you always liked that show and the books as well. It's a shame you didn't get to enjoy nonstop Monk. I think you would have really liked that.

Well, all three of the kids love their new school(s). All three are enrolled in the Blue Ridge district and they are all doing really well! Baylor really likes his new teacher and he's making new friends. He never has trouble with that. Huddy likes his teachers as well...and they all seem to like him as well. He's making all As and Bs right now and seems to be enjoying keeping up with the work. As always...he's had no trouble making friends. Gracie was the surprise! She is having a wonderful time! Making friends, getting her usual great grades, helping with the yearbook...and it's only been a couple of weeks. God has really done a wonderous thing for this little family.

The best part of The Lazy Trout is that I get to work with my family all the time. Now my days are spent at about 80/20 family:other. I love it! We watch shows together, eat together, cook together, and even when I go to work, I am with Ashley or Gracie, or Hud, or Bay, or all of them, or...whatever! It's what I always wanted, but I never knew I wanted it...and I CERTAINLY didn't know I could ever achieve it! Thank you for that! The way you lived your life made this life for my family possible. I intend to carry that on.

We sell a few different fire starters at The Trout. One particular type comes in a big, square, plastic bucket with a snap-on lid and a bail. We use the bucket to display the fire starters and throw the other one away. I said to Ashley the other day as I was throwing one away, "I know of a nice, old guy who sure would love to have these buckets when we don't need them any more! He could store all sorts of things in them! Nuts and bolts, rags, snacks...or just nothing. Just have them in case he WANTED to store something!" You always loved things like that.

Fishing is slow. Days are cold, but the ice isn't safe everywhere. The road into Big Lake is closed...though some still make it in. Silver Creek is where I send people right now.

The people in town worry about us right now. Business is slow (though, not as slow as they think and certainly much busier than I had planned). I've had enough busy days. I really enjoy the slow days...and I know that May through October will be hectic, so I am savoring these slow days...treasuring them. Just a little 40s music and we're just fine.

I love you, Dad. I miss you so much. I like connecting with you in pipe tobacco, Monk, and anything else...as you know, I find connection daily.

I know that Dad knows, but I wish I could share this time in my life with him. I wish that he would walk in to the market one day, give me a hug, and ask what they're biting on. I miss him. We spent so much time together in the town of Greer - I know he's happy for us. I know he's proud of me. Somedays I go down to his tree by the river and visit with him a bit.

The past two years have been one struggle after another. I miss you, Dad. I love you. God bless. Thank you.

There's just so much I want to talk with him about. I pray to dream about him just so I can talk with him again. I absolutely was not ready for him to be gone. I was prepared...Dad was prepared, but I wasn't ready.

I miss his hugs. I miss how he kept up on the automobile market...he always knew what model was build on what chassis. I miss his texts and him playing solitaire with Baylor in the mornings when we would visit. I miss his smile when he saw that we had MGD on hand. I miss how long it would take him to eat his dinners and how he made himself completely at home when he was at our house. I miss coming home from work and being greeted by my dad...who had come early so that he could visit with Ashley for a bit before I got home. They really developed a great friendship. I'm mad that I can't take him fishing with the boys right now. The browns are in spawn and I know he would get a kick out of seeing that.

I miss you, Dad! I hope you understand what you really meant to me!

I miss uncle Jay. He had a certain gentleness about him that allowed you to be at ease when he was around. He invested in me much more than I ever realized. I am thankful for his faithfulness and that we will see him again.

Today was the day I signed KHOS on the air in 1963 Jay was not here at that time but he was hired in 1969. Jay became a valued employee from that we became great friend!

I miss my dad. If you knew him, you know he was a good man. And if you thought he was a good man, you didn't know the half of it. He is with me throughout my day...constantly reminding me how he would handle things. He was so smart and wise.

I miss his voice and I miss him flashing his lights as he would drive off after a visit. I'm not ready for him to be gone. I so desperately want to receive a new text from him just giving me an update of his day or his location between his house and the cabin.

He was so good to all of us and he loved us so much. He was so much more than a father to me and he was the best father a boy could ever imagine.
