Joel Eugene Price's Obituary
Joel Eugene Price, 80, Born March 5th, 1939 to Robert “Gene” and Dorothy Price in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Jesus called Jay home unexpectedly on June 19th, 2019. He is survived by his daughter, Jamie (Eric); son, Joel (Ashley) and sister, Pamela. He will continue to watch over and help guide them and his six grandchildren: Megan (20), Gracie (15), Macy (14), Hudson (10), Captain (10), and Baylor (4). Jay was a graduate of Louisiana State University and served as a Captain in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. The end of his military service brought Jay to Tucson, where he met Doris in the summer of 1970. They were engaged on Valentine’s Day and married on May 14th, 1971.
Jay’s days were spent on-air as a DJ and later in sales for a local country radio station. Jay’s life was spent in true and unwavering devotion to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was known by many names – Joel in Louisiana, Jay in Arizona, JayBear to some of his radio friends. He was Dad, Daddy, Buzzy, Granddaddy, and Papa. He was a terrific father and an amazing grandfather. Jay was a Good Shepherd to all of us – teaching through example of constant prayer and a deep understanding of the Lord’s love for us all. His favorite places were San Diego, Hawaii, the White Mountains in Arizona, and any place where he could visit with his children and grandchildren.
He was the very best of men, and we will miss him dearly. His sudden ascent to Heaven leaves a large hole in our lives…perhaps larger than any of us imagined. He has been an anchor through all our family’s toughest storms…quietly and lovingly guiding and helping us without fanfare or record.
Jay left Earth to reunite with his wife, Doris and so many of his family and friends. He leaves us with so many cherished and happy memories. He leaves us to go be with our Savior, Jesus in Heaven. He leaves a legacy of love and integrity.
Friends and family are welcome to attend services Sunday, June 23rd, 2019. Barrier Chapel at Casas Church.
