Joseph Charles McDowell's Obituary
Joseph Charles "Jake" McDowell, 88, one of the greatest generation, fought the good fight and received his heavenly ticket home on August 18, 2011. Born April 30, 1923 in Hillsdale, Indiana. Jake served in the U.S. Army during WWII and retired as a welder at Stran Steel in Terre Haute, Indiana. Jake will be remembered for his love of fishing, biscuits with lots of gravy, gospel music and overalls. He enjoyed the blessings of his two families in Indiana and in Tucson. Preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; brother, Raymond; and sisters, Martha, Lorene and Lucille. Survived by his son, Charles (Cynthia) McDowell of Riley, IN. A daughter, Judith (Jerry) Lanzone of Lyford, IN. Grandchildren, Kurt (Julie) Lanzone of Montezuma, IN, Kristen (Greg) Tejera of Camby, IN; step-grandchildren, Justin Smith and Kelly Crouse Alvin; three great-grandsons, Kaleb, Kolton and Keaton Lanzone; and one sister, Wilma Harlow of Tipton, IN. Also surviving are his wife, Miriam; stepdaughters, Donna (Gary) Wakefield, Gail (Bruce) Mowen of Tucson, AZ and Sara Knowlton of Mena, AR; step-grandchildren, Greg (Kimberly) Wakefield, Amy Wakefield, Brian Wakefield, Dan (Arlene) Mowen, Tim Mowen, Joe (Nina) Mowen; step-great-grandchildren, Cody, Luke, Eli and Wesley Mowen, Madeline Wakefield, all of Tucson. Funeral was held in Clinton, IN on August 25, 2011. Burial followed at Helts Prairie Cemetery. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY
