Lawrence John Lippert's Obituary
Lawrence J. “Larry” Lippert, age 87, died on February 3rd, 2025 in Tucson, Arizona due to complications of congestive heart failure. Larry was born on December 8th, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio to parents Ralph and Esther Lippert.
Larry had a great sense of humor, was a great writer, reader, sports fan, hiker, swimmer, and traveler, a king of yard work and a fruitful gardener, and a volunteer for numerous organizations. In his younger years he enjoyed hiking in wilderness areas and parks of all kinds, fishing, attending sporting events, dinner gatherings with friends, playing numerous sports and games, and swimming including in large bodies of water. Larry was a resident of Amber Lights Retirement Center for the last 7 months of his life.
Larry graduated the 8th grade from St. Clare Parish School in College Hill, Cincinnati. In 1955, he graduated as valedictorian from St. Xavier High School where he played varsity tennis and was on the Debate Team. In 1955 he entered the Jesuit order in Milford, Ohio, where he lived 4 years, followed by 2 years in the Jesuits at West Baden College, Indiana. He earned a B.A. in Latin & Greek Classics in 1960, and an M.A. in English in 1965, both from Loyola University, Chicago. After 6 years he decided to leave the Jesuits and began teaching at Grosse Pointe High School, Michigan, from 1962-65. He then sold textbooks as a traveling salesman, Western Ohio territory, for Harcourt, Brace, & World from 1965-67, then became chairman of the English Dept. at Wyoming High School, Ohio, teaching there from 1967-68. Later in 1968 Larry joined Hamilton Caster & Mfg. Co., as Assistant Sales Manager, working with his father, Ralph, and brothers Bob and Tom. He became Sales Manager in 1973, and served for many years as Corporate Secretary and Vice President, Sales, retiring in 1993. He also served on the Board of Directors of Hamilton Caster & Mfg. Co. for several decades.
Larry served as a director for the American Supply & Manufacturers Association from 1982-85, and for the Society of Advancement of Management, Cincinnati Chapter from 1973-78, and also as a Trustee for San Miguel High School in Tucson from 2010 onward. He also volunteered his time as Hamilton Caster’s representative to Junior Achievement of Hamilton, OH, and Students in Free Enterprise, Miami University, through the 1980’s. He served as a facilitator for Beginning Experience in Dayton, OH from 1990-95 and in Tucson, AZ from 1997-2001, and was Hospice Volunteer for Odyssey Healthcare in Tucson from 2003-2012.
Larry married Barbara Kieffer in 1966, with whom he had two sons: Jerry, born in 1967, and Ted, born in 1969. Barbara died in 1989. In 2008, Larry married Judy Ann Anderson, who died in 2013.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ralph & Esther Lippert, wife Barbara Kieffer Lippert, wife Judy Ann Anderson, brothers Robert R. Lippert and Thomas J. Lippert, and nephews Joseph Lippert and James Lippert. Survived by fraternal twin brother William “Bill” Lippert, sons Jerome “Jerry” (Pamela) Lippert and Edward “Ted” (Krista) Lippert, step-daughter Tanya Keats, step-son Gary Schander, grand-daughters Madeleine Lippert and Katrina Lippert, grandson Levi Lippert, sisters-in-law Mary Lippert and Adele Lippert, nephews David Lippert, Steve Lippert, Paul Lippert, Mike Lippert, and Mark Lippert, and nieces Debbie Bellman, Karen Witte,
Maggie Ellen Hecker, Jennifer Ruehlmann, Theresa McGanney, Beth Lippert, and Laurel Lippert, and numerous good friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in Larry’s honor on Saturday, March 29th, 2025 at Catalina Foothills Church, 2150 E. Orange Grove Rd., Tucson, Arizona, 85718. Friends and family are welcome to call on Larry’s family from 1:30 – 2:30 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service beginning at 3:00 PM. Light food and refreshments will be served afterwards.
