Richard Steven Glass' Obituary
Richard Glass, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on January 10, 2025, just one week following the death of his wife of 54 years, Susan. He was born on March 5, 1943 in New York City to Sylvia and Emmanuel Glass. He excelled as a student, graduating from Bronx Science, NYU (B.A. 1963), and Harvard, where he earned a Ph.D. (1967) in Organic Chemistry. After a short stint working for Hoffmann-La Roche, he met and married Susan. Together, they moved to Tucson where Richard accepted a position at the University of Arizona. There he worked for 47 years, earning awards for his teaching and accumulating numerous research accolades. Richard conducted extensive research into organic chemistry, mentoring numerous graduate students and traveling throughout the world to discuss his work. During his time off, he loved exploring new food and wine, often finding little-known restaurants with the best food. Richard was an avid collector of stamps and coins with a collection from around the world. He especially loved spending time with his grandkids. Richard is survived by his sons, Ethan and Lawrence, his brother Joel, his daughter-in-law, Anne, and his grand-daughters, Elizabeth and Samantha.
