Seneca Lawrence Erman MD's Obituary
Seneca Lawrence Erman M.D. passed away peacefully on September 29, 2021, at the age of 92.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy. He is survived by their 3 children and their spouses, Cantor Janece Cohen, Dr. Spencer Erman (Nancy), and Dr. Russ Erman (Anat); 6 grand-children, and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was born in The Bronx, NY, and after medical school came to Arizona ( 4 days after getting married) to begin his Public Health Service commitment. He has been living in Arizona since 1958.
Seneca was a surgeon and emergency room physician for more than 50 years, first with the US Public Health Service, and then in private practice in Tucson and Benson AZ. He was committed to serving his community through participation and leadership positions in many service organizations, including terms as District Governor of the Lions Club, and Potentate of the Shriners in Tucson. He also served on many Boards, including the International Board of Directors for the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children. Dr. Seneca Erman won the Inaugural Jefferson Award for Public Service in the State of Arizona in 1973.
Seneca was actively involved in the Tucson Jewish community, with membership and participation in various synagogues, terms as President of Congregations, and as leader of services for many years. He loved participating in the Choir at Congregation Or Chadash, under the baton of the Cantor, his daughter Janece.
Seneca was an important influence on the lives of many. He will be greatly missed for his energy, his sense of commitment, his sense of humor, his generosity, his love of sushi and dim-sum, his love of cruising and travel, and his love for his family. He left a little piece of himself in everyone who knew him.
In Lieu of flowers, we are requesting donations in his name to:
