Sidney N. Lachter's Obituary
LACHTER, Sid 75, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away from pancreatic cancer on Thursday, May 12, 2016, surrounded by his family and with the support of many close friends. Sid was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 4, 1940. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Manitoba. He went on to practice law in Minnedosa and Neepawa, Manitoba. His interest in politics led him to run for the Parliament of Canada in 1972 and the Manitoba Legislative Assembly in 1977. He also served on the Town Council of Neepawa and on the Board of Directors for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Lachter family moved to Arizona in 1979, where Sid practiced law in the Phoenix area and in Tucson. He was a member of Temple Beth Sholom in Mesa for nearly 25 years, serving on the temple board in several capacities, including as President. More recently, he was a member of Anshei Israel in Tucson. Sid had many diverse interests and hobbies, from travel to the arts to golf. He was well-known for his love of the Jewish community and his hometown of Winnipeg. He visited dozens of countries and had a great fondness for hiking, reading, and sporting events of many kinds. Most importantly, Sid was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Sandra; his children, Martin (Naomi) of New York, Allison (Michael) Richter of Tucson, Hartley (Jessica) of Allentown, Pennsylvania, his four grandchildren, Rachel, Noah, Zoe, and Mollie; and his brother, Shale of Vancouver, BC. He will be forever loved and missed. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Evergreen Cemetery in Tucson at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made in Sid's memory to Peppi's House Hospice and Congregation Anshei Israel in Tucson.
