I remember Steve from Sahuaro High School. We played football together during our freshman and sophomore years. At the end of our normal P.E. class, we would run around the outside school yard fence. One day an older jerk guy ran up behind me and stepped on my shoe heal, causing me to stop and replace my shoe. When he tried it again, Steve, who was watching the whole thing from just ahead of me, ran back to educate this jerk about bullying a smaller, quiet freshman. He pinned him down using one of his many wrestling moves, and "enlightened" the bully. I really didn't know Steve until then, but his unselfish and caring regard for others I'm sure was a life-long trait of his. This sincere act of kindness is a story I have shared with my son and nephews. Thanks Steve. We'll miss you.
